Craftman Rear Drive Cable Replacement

Hi, I replaced the rear drive cable on my 22" rear wheel drive craftsman. Works fine with two exceptions. There is a high pitched squeal when in drive and I'm holding a 1" long tension spring. I know where it attaches to the rear baffle but can't find where the other end attaches.

I'm guessing it squeals because the belt is rubbing on something but maybe that's what the spring protects.

Ideas.
