I have a 2004 Scag TT model STT61A-27CH with a 61inch deck that has a deck adjustment issue. Page 24 of the owners manual says" loosen the serrated flange hex nut and move the bolt up or down to adjust the deck". As near as I can tell, there is no serrated flange hex nut and no slot to move it up or down.
Has anyone else run into this problem while trying to level the deck left to right?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Need help!

Repairs HRX217HYA-How2 Remove Adjuster Arm on Rear Axle?

Can someone tell me how to remove the adjuster arm on the rear axle of my HRX217HYA so I can lube the bushing that's shown behind it on the attached diagram?

It appears that the adjuster arm simply slides off the axle, after removing the wheel, wheel cover, circlips and a couple of washers.

I tried prying it off by placing a flat tip screwdriver between the arm and the Nexite deck, but it won't budge.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

need to replace 20 year old JD gt275

The electric clutch has gone out on my 1998 GT275. T replace it, $400 for clutch and am told nearly that for labor. Engine is in great shape and so is deck. Not sure whether to just get a new one or fix. Health isn't the best so that has to be a factor. Don't want to spend $800 and something else go wrong. Looking to spend $3k max. Another JD or a Hustler Zero turn? Thoughts?

lx 173 electronic clutch problem?

Went to mow this morning and when I engaged the electronic clutch for the blades the engine acted like I'd turned off the key.
I thought the electronic clutch went bad so I replaced it and got the same problem.
Then replaced the engagement switch and same problem, it kills the engine.
Also engaged the switch without it hooked to the clutch,same problem.................
traced the wires looking for a short but couldn't find one.

I'm at a loss to what ta do now.............:ashamed:

Any ideas to the next step?

Brake pedal jumping while driving

Model LOGTH2448T

Trying to revive this mower back to full health. When driving or sitting the brake pedal jumps back and forth making all kinds of noise, louder than the engine.

Could this just be the drive belt? Possible adjustment? I'm guessing some of the pulley's need changed. The hyrdo transmission seems strong.

Jacobsen 22" Greensmower Rebuild

I bought this off Craig's List that was advertised as "broken..make offer". I have since field stripped it and found that the plug was fouled and had TONS of carbon buildup in the head. Parts were hard to find, but I was able to collect some good references that I felt I should share. Attached is a pdf of nearly every 62206 and 9A22 22" Greensmower made. I'll post more pics and info throughout my rebuild. The 2 pistons...right one from my Estate 26, left from my 22" Greens. The 26" had a hard life.

I would post more files for the 22" Greensmower Manuals, but I can't. This Forum doesn't allow for anything over 3.81MB files. Where am I? 2002? Forum IT guys...increase the limit so we can use this site more effectively! I have much more to share. If someone want the manuals, e-mail me directly.

Jacobsen Estate 26 Barn Find

Although I am still trying to determine what year this was made, I think it is from 1960-61. Can anyone in this forum help me? It's model #8C26 Ser#6369. I've had fun peeling away 50 years of grease and muck to reveal that beautiful "Jake Orange".

I just placed a big order on Ebay for all the replacement parts, including the piston, rod, bearings, governor, gaskets, and 321 oil. Although I haven't gotten into the carb yet, the mower was in relatively good shape...other then a broken piston rod and bad rings. Goal is the get this old gal running again!

I also attached an exploded parts list (.pdf) of the Estate 26. Hope someone finds this as useful as I have!

I have had nothing but trouble with my Husq. The petrol leaked into the engine and mixed with the oil. Then the wiring caught fire. It also seems only man enough to tackle a really perfectly level lawn. My lumpy field is not something that it likes. Also once the grass is more than 8" high it seems to have problems coping. Is it possible for it to be rigged up to drag a cutter behind it ?

Added another Husky to the stable

Got the itch for a new rider, so I added a new GTH 52XLS to the fleet recently. I wanted the Briggs Endurance engine, locking diff, heavy trans, fab deck, and NO push button start fiasco. So, after scouring the state for a few weeks, our rep found one still crated up for me. First thing I did was remove the headlights, pull that ridiculous silver reflective paper out (really? come on Husqvarna- $3,000 for a mower and using silver reflective paper/mylar shoved into the headlight housing??) so I silicone sealed the lenses to the backers to keep out dust, cut some rubber washers to fit the bulb fixtures, and insert some really nice LED's. 8 cuts in, no dust inside. These are the lights they should have crafted from the factory. I also added some neoprene armrest covers to avoid hamburger elbow from those cheese-grater armrests and a wheel spinner, some rubber tread in the center of the footrest pan, and we're ready to cut. Love it so far- the locking diff is awesome, even though 75% of the tractor is exactly the same as my 2007 is lol!

I also added the mulch kit, still figuring out if I like that or not. I like not having the deflector in the way though.

Glad I found this forum, as it looks like the place to be for a Lawn-Boy fanatic and DIY'er.
Got my first LB when I bought my first home in '83, a capstan-drive steel deck 21 incher.
Soon after, I traded up for the then-new series of aluminum deck models with the integral center rear chute, model #8125. The no-offset deck afforded close trimming on either side, as well as nice straight mowing lines. Removing the mulching insert and hanging on the bag was so simple in comparison to the separate chute models, I hoped to keep it forever. One Sunday in 1998 I was at my local hardware store, hoping they had an ignition coil in stock, so I could finish mowing. While waiting, I spied a model #10523 on display that looked unlike the others on the rack. Upon inquiry, the clerk said "That's last year's model. It's probably the last true Lawn-Boy, as the other ones you see are just green Toros." Well, you know what got loaded in my truck. The old girl got scrubbed up, lubed up, wrapped up and mothballed for about 7 years. Eventually, I found a NOS drive unit to replace the tired one, a new OEM coil and put it back in service.
Along the way, I added a Lawn-Boy Snow Blower that's now over 10 years old, as well as a L-B Electric string trimmer that I found in a yard sale.

The #8125 and trimmer aren't in the pic, as they're both in weekly use at my Son's yard, now that he's a homeowner. As I mentioned earlier, I hope to keep all the 2-stroke stuff alive forever, so I'm hoping to learn from the experience base here.

JD L111 Brake Pedal Stuck, now won't turn over

2006 JD L111 Lawn Mower Tractor
Mowed 2 weeks ago, all good. Parked it in the shed.
Today, brake pedal would not depress. Moved an inch or 2 but would not go down all the way. Could not start it without depressing the brake pedal fully.
Did a little googleing, found "pop the pedal".
I did just that, and WaLa! The brake pedal freed up.

But now it will not turn over. It's acting like the safety switch is not being depressed, but it is.
Battery is good, charger says 100%. Headlights and running hour display work fine.
No clicking noise, nothing, when I turn the key.
Pressed safety switch by hand many times, no change, and the brake pedal is depressing it correctly now.
All battery terminals look good, no corrosion at all, nothing is loose.

Any ideas what is going on?

I have a scag freedom z and there is a spacer bar that connects both hydraulics. The bolt on the right side of the mower has snapped 3 times in the last month. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? I really need some assistance with this!

I recently purchased a 6+ acre property and currently mow about 4 acres. I own a 2010 Yard Man 50" zero turn mower with about 400 hours that isn't cutting it. I also mow 5 other smaller yards on the side with a Toro push mower, but want to upgrade to something bigger/better. Assuming I can only buy one mower, what are your recommendations? Or should I really be looking at a new ZTR and walk-behind to mow the side jobs?

Looking for a PTO switch connector plug.

I burned up 2 PTO switches, and a couple of fuses. Determined I had a clutch problem. Replaced it and now have a third switch but the connector block for the PTO switch is damaged. I don't want to replace the whole wiring harness. All I need is the plug that mates with the switch. Can't find a 9 pin plug that fits it. I can eliminate the plug and go to female spade connectors but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. Anyone know where the plug can be purchased? I also read that the fuse holders can be an issue so I plan to replace both of those with waterproof ones. I am also replacing the diode assembly on the Kawasaki engine since the charging fuse seemed to be a bit hot. The clutch circuit fuse is now cool to the touch.

Any help would be appreciated !

older husky vs newer cub vs newer troy

I am trying to get a riding mower, just tired of spending hrs pushing. i'm looking at used riders specifically a newer then 2010 troy 17.5hp pony, a 2006 cub 1550 25hp , and a 2004 21hp husky. Problem is I know nothing about mowers so I'm wondering with would last me the longest the troy is the best conditioned just serviced and the husky says it has some new parts. just shy of an acre to mow so i'm sure all of them would do just fine just looking for reliability.

I own a Husqvarna sit on mower tractor. I have a large'ish field that I mow with it. I don't need to collect the grass cuttings so I do not use the heavy box thingy at the back of the mower. I was using it today and suddenly this loud screeching alarm type noise started and even when I turned off the engine it would not stop. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. Apparently the mower had decided that my grass box was full which is kinda odd as there was no grass box being used. What can I do to stop this happening again ?

I am hoping you might be able to help me determine which cylinder on my JD345 liquid cooled FD590V engine has a water leak (cylinder head failure).
I did a compression test, and both sides are equal.
I also pulled the head (with the thermostat) and looked it over, and replaced the head gasket, but saw no issues.
The engine oil looks clean as well.
Do the the Kawasaki Engines have a history of thin, warped heads, or water jacket issues?
Any thoughts?

My Lawn tractor Scotts/JohnDeere Model 2048 was recently in shop to replace a leaking seal. When I got it back PTO would not engage. Repair shop is being difficult.

I have a 20yr old Kohler Command engine.Recently one coil stopped firing so I went to the manual and ordered a coil using the part number from the manual.The coil I received was a different wiring configuration,and after some research it appears the oem coils are no longer made.It also appears I need a different wiring harness or convertion kit to make the new coils work.Ive been to countless web sites and I cant find either.Does anyone know where I can find it.Tried <justanswer> but that was a waste of time and money.Help would be greatly appreciated.

new member and hoping someone can help with advice
I have recently inherited a ride on mower along with property purchase here in France,i can find little to no information about the two bits of kit i have,i have zero experience with ride on mowers however i consider myself quite good at problem solving as i am a maintenance engineer.

mower is fitted with a briggs and stratton v twin motor which i have now repaired,simple fix ,new battery and starter motor gear replaced, basic service and its running sweet.
However I have two problems i cannot resolve:
deck will not lift from floor,lift lever has lots of spring tension but it does not seem to have any impact on the deck lifting or lowering,all fixings are in place and retained with pins but there is no movement under the machine at all,is there maybe a cable missing?having not seen a complete assembly or diagram before i cant be sure if somethings missing.

also i cannot find any reference for drive belt? as in transfer drive from motor pulley to the pulley on the deck, the deck is fitted with a belt as per diagram found on deck but i cannot see belt for transferring drive to the deck.

one other thing is i now live in rural France where service centers are far and few between and i am told they charge far to much for me to consider taking for repair,with the motor all sound and running sweet it will be a real shame if i cannot figure these minor issues out.

Advice needed for removing solenoid from Scotts mower

A lady friend of my wife has a Scotts mower made by John Deere. Mower is model # S1642. She thought the starter was bad. I by passed the solenoid and the starter is good and strong. I then checked solenoid and it is bad. the solenoid is just to right of battery box and bolted to the frame with torx head screws from under the frame member. I removed the deck and have the Torx heads and etc but can't figure out what else I should remove underneath in order to reach the Torx heads. What am I missing? Any help will be appreciated. I have tried searching the internet but found nothing.

Just one old man with a 36" SW SCAG w/sulky that will not give up and quit, Did not get into lawn work until near 70 years young. Had gotten equipment for a young man that changed his mind, In 2010 I had to make the equipment pay for itself. Found out that that required someone on the mower and now "here am I." It does keep me active and puts a little money in my pocket, notice, I said "a little money!" May do it two more years and get out but will see how it goes health wise.

I'm really liking the new (to me) T3300 (273900) I picked up several weeks back. It's made quite a difference and saved me a lot of time. I'm developing different ways to cut the lawn for the most efficient, time saving method over the last 6 weeks.

Yesterday, after a successful cut where the blades were randomly activated and deactivated, I pull up to blow it off and hook up the washout spickett, start her back up, yet the blades won't activate!
Fiddled and fussed with the deck height, brake peddle, seat sensor, forward/reverse selection on the ignition, started-shutoff-started it several times in a row with random settings changed with each turn of the key ... yet the blades just don't engage!?!

I checked the cable ... it's doing it's job.
I checked the electrical connections ... they all seem in proper order.
I pulled the seat and examined the seat sensor ... all in correct working order.

Before I spend a few hours on line seeking out other solutions, I figured I drop this dilemma here and see what advice I get here.

I have cut the yard only twice and the last time I tried it had issues. I usually disengage the blades to go across the driveway. I went to engage the blades and they would not work. I found out it needed a stronger battery for it to work. I bought a new battery and it worked fine for about 2 weeks. Today the solenoid started clicking so I bypassed the solenoid to crank the mower. I got one side of the yard done so I disengaged the blades to go across driveway to finish. I pulled the electric button to engage the blades and it will not engage! Is the solenoid causing my issue of draining the battery or should I call Sears ?

Huskee Supreme SLT4600H Starter/Starting Problem

I have the above mentioned mower (Model# 13AX615H730) with a manufacturing date of 1/2007. It's a mower shared by my mother and myself (we live next door to each other on her property). A few days ago it was too wet to mow anything so she was using it with a trailer attached moving things around on her property. While doing that, it stopped starting for her. Turn the key and nothing. She said she had run it through water but I'd done that several times and never had a problem. It was late in the afternoon and didn't have time (or a functioning meter) to look into it.

The next day I tested the solenoid (placing a screwdriver across both posts) and it was fine by that standard. We both needed to mow to I tried jumping a hot wire direct from the battery to the starter and it cranked right up. She mowed her yard and I mine and more and when I went to park it and shut it off, just out of curiosity, I tried to start it again and it started fine. And a second time as well.

It started again this morning just fine but developed a mowing deck problem. I parked it and took the hose to wash off the deck but, considering the engine and all was still hot, didn't wash the engine and left it while I took a break to wash the engine off later. Later I drove it into the garage to work on it. When I shut it off, it sounded like the starter was still going. Not actually engaging the engine, but still whirring. The only way I knew to stop it was to disconnect the negative cable (fortunately I had the tools handy and had just recently replaced the battery so it went pretty quick).

Now every time I touch the negative cable to the battery terminal it tries to start (starter engages the engine). We concluded that the previous problem with it "not" starting was water related for some reason. Maybe this problem will go away when things dry up, too, but I'm not counting on it.

Any idea - other than water related - what could be causing this? Solenoid? Starter? If it's still doing it the next time I plan to take a close look at the wiring for shorts, etc.

Remington RM360 just stops

I have a Remington RM360 made by Kohler (or maybe the other way around but both names are on mower). Last year the engine would just stop about an hour into cutting my lawn and it seems like its getting shorter each time I use it. I'm down to about 35 min until its stops running. I have to wait a day until it cools back down until I can start it again. Would this be a spark plug getting too hot kind of situation? Oil and gas are always full.

Recently replaced the torque strap in the rear end. Since then, the cooling fan on the rear end knocks the belt off the pulley when the drive belt is disengaged to start. I have replaced the drive belt thinking it needed to be replaced, but still does the same thing. Could I have changed the angle of the fan when replacing the torque strap? Also uninstalled and reinstalled the clutch springs, I believe I put them back correctly. Any suggestions?

i have a 17 hp briggs & stratton intek v twin engine and the starting motor bendix broke. i did not see any numbers on the starting motor but on the bracket i see these numbers on the bendix side it is 9807015m and on the back of that bracket it is 28154. are these bracket number issued to particular motors so if i find a motor with that same number it is good to use it? i looked all over the mower and the engine and i just do not see any data tags or numbers. seems they must be some on there somewhere but i just don't see them. so i'm asking if the bracket number may help to id the motor? thanks the mower is a rider it says yardman mtd on the decals and the number i find are on the floor and they tell me the attachments this mower will take. and the only number i found was on the axle that one was 618-0307 s# q-004500 . but my guess is that axle was used on number of machines. thanks for any help you can provide. bp

I have a 6 hp little wonder leaf blower. Couldn't run unless half choked. Rebuilt carb completely. Still wouldn't run and when I half choked It has little power. Next day go out start it runs fine. Next day half power wants to stall. Next day fine...... I got so aggravated with it I took out to a shop. Problem is they couldn't get it to act up. But as soon as I got it home, well you know the story. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Electrical help/suggestions for my Snapper ZTR 44" w/ a Kohler 18 HP

Here is what I have:
5091000 Snapper Fast Cut ZT18440KH, 18HP Zero-Turn Rider with 44" Mower, I know this because I used to have a basic manual.
It has a Kohler motor on it. I have to assume it's an 18HP because all of the Kohler Identification that I know to look for is gone.

My issue is electrical. And it has to be something related to the charging system. Here is my reasoning:

Just bought a new battery, (the old one died VERY quickly and I just thought perhaps we left the key on). The new battery starts the mower just fine. Twenty minutes into mowing the motor just shuts off. In this case I was able to fire it up for about 20-30 seconds after turning off the blades and letting it sit for a minute. But then it just shuts off again. Leave it sit for 30 minutes and it will run for 2-3 minutes now.

So, I'm capable of replacing components, but my issues are:
1. I can't figure out EXACTLY which Kohler motor to buy components for since my Kohler ID tag is gone.
2. I am unsure of which electrical components I should replace, and in what order?
3. Does anyone know of some good videos or tutorials on how to replace these components?

Electrical help/suggestions for my Snapper ZTR 44" w/ a Kohler 18 HP

Ariens Zoom 34 shut-off by seat-safety requires drive hyd-bypass play to start

If my Zero-Turn 14.5HP B&S 2016 ZOOM 34 is shut-off by unloading from the seat (safety-shutoff) it can not be restarted until I lock-in/out and release the Hydro Drive Bypass rods. Frustrating as heck because I then have to get down on knees in close quarters and try to find/see the two finger-ring L&R rods that normally allow hand moving the mower by pushing.
The only thing I figure is somehow shutting off the mower while it's rolling perhaps builds pressure in the zero-turn hyd drives that must engage a no-start in the mowers wiring circuit. It will make a noise like the solenoid is operating but it will not crank.

I have a feeling if the get-off the seat safety shut-down were by-passed this locked-in safety-off pain would go away.

LTX 1046 PTO won't engage after blade change

Hello! I changed the mower blades on my 2011 LTX 1046 (I believe it's a Kohler engine). It has the spring that attaches a cable from the PTO lever to the pulley bracket on the mower deck. I had a little trouble getting that spring detached and re-attached and pulled on the cable more than I wanted to. Other than that, removing the deck and replacing the blades went pretty smoothly, I thought. But now, the PTO won't engage and I cannot figure out why! The PTO lever does cause the pulley to move on the mower deck, but it seems like the belt may be still too loose perhaps? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I've been trying to diagnose my problem for several days, and ran across this video on YouTube which shows EXACTLY what my mower is doing. It was left out in the rain one night about a week ago, but that's happened a couple of times over the past couple of years with no problems. I can hear the spinning sound when I turn on the ignition, but doesn't seem to want to turn over at all. The battery also checks out fine. Any help is appreciated!

My Hustler blades won't engage. I've replaced the PTO switch and get a click at the clutch but it won't engage the blades. I installed a new belt and everything on the deck look good. Is it possible the clutch is bad? I'd appreciate any ideas of what to look at next.

Kohler Coil Swap. Command to Courage engine.

Recently purchased a Craftsman riding mower with a Kohler Courage twin 26HP. It's having a intermittent spark issue cause of the DSAI modules.

To make sure the engine runs I removed the coils from a Kohler command engine and put them on the Courage. Runs good from what I can tell and on both cylinders. Charging system is working.

Just wondering if this could work long term or should I buy the kit to replace the DSAI modules?


Other facts: Mower has 200 hours on it, bent push rod on the fuel pump side (I straightened it back out just only to test) I will be replacing it, Oil is leaking badly from the valve covers and a bolt was snapped off in one of the holes (going to drill it out and tap in a new bolt), oil is really dirty (I plan on doing a few oil changes back to back).

Timecutter z4200 exhaust isolator issue

Hey guys!
I have a Toro timecutter z4200 that has been a great zero turn mower except it recently broke the exhaust (expected after 7 years of use) and so I got online and bought a new exhaust kit from a Toro shop. Well, the exhaust got installed per instructions that shipped with the parts. Within 15 minute of mowing, the new exhaust broke. I looked at the situation and found that the isolator was installed correctly but the reason the exhaust broke this time is because the isolator, itself, broke. I called the shop that I ordered the parts from and they said there was nothing that can be done unless it's a manufacturers defect. I will attach pictures but gas anyone else had this issue?

Have problem with gas getting into the oil + oil into the carb from the breather tube. Replaced carb, changed oil & filter. Engine started right up, ran great for a couple of minutes, then engine started smoking as before. Heavy oil vapors again in the breather tube going into the carb. Replaced oil was at the correct level and gas shut off already was installed. Anybody have any suggestions other than a cracked piston or head gasket?

Deck uneven when set at high level.

HI i have a Husqvarna CTH 140 Twin 36" ride on.

When I set the height of the deck to a high level the deck is lower on the right hand side then the left by an inch or more. I have followed the instructions given in the manual on how to correctly set the level of the deck, but the problem is still there.

As I lower the height using the adjusting wheel it levels out correctly, but the higher I set it the cutting level its very uneven.

Any ideas. is it just a setting problem or could something be broken.

2013 Hustler Fastrac 54" Drive pulley issues

Hey guys,
New to the forum, but have been lurking for awhile. I'm having a major issue with my drive pulley on the right side. So I bought this unit used with 162 hrs on it. It now has 182 and I'm having to replace the Drive pulley/fan on the right side for a second time. First time I assumed was a fluke, but this time I'm thinking it's more serious. 1 reason being is last time I was able to get the nut off with a wrench and a ratchet, last night I was able to turn the nut a few round and now it feel like I may break the shaft it is on. I'm charging up my cordless impact, but assuming the worst here. Any Idea's why these things keep coming apart? In my case it appears the pulley starts to spin on the splined collar and when that happens it heats up melts the fan off and eventually the pulley center gets wore to nothing. Obviously I stop before it gets that far, but you get the idea. Between this and the deck clogging every mow I'm about to set this pos on fire.

I have a Husqvarna LHT125 hydro riding mower with a 15.5 hp Briggs and Stratten engine. Using a fully charged 300 cranking amp battery the starter will engage the flywheel but will not rotate fast enough to start engine. I took the starter in to my local repair shop , they checked it out and said it was drawing too many amps and they sold me a "almost new" used starter. The same problem persists. All the connections are tight, no loose wires. I have had to use a power bank/booster to start engine. When it starts it runs great. Any help would be much appreciated.

Its having trouble starting, we have fitted a coil as there was no spark,there is now,replaced the plug and oil,still nothing.
It has a low oil level sensor fitted, but we have the oil at the correct level.

John Deere F525 Leaking Oil

I have a JD F525 with 600 hours. It started leaking oil from the seal on the bottom of the engine. I replaced the seal and it still leaked so I thought I had a bad seal. Replaced the seal again and ran it this time before bolting the electric PTO in place. It wasn't leaking. Once I bolt the PTO in place, it starts leaking without the engine running. Problems with my deck

I have a YTH 18542 Model 960130002 Serial 020508C001829

I bought it about 8 or 9 years ago. Ever since I had it it burned oil, about 1/2 a cup each time i mowed about 1 1/2 hours. I can't seem to level the deck either and nither can the dealer and it is slowly getting lower to the ground all the time, in the fully raised position it cuts the grass about 2" long. Last year it quit all together when I took it into the dealer he checked it out and told me it needed a new engine, he wanted $1,400.00 plus shipping and labor. I took it home and pulled the valve cover off and the intake valve was stuck open. I got a new head for $263.00 and put it on it has been running great ever since don't burn oil either but I still have a problem with my deck any ideas.

14 year old gravely 252Z starts intermittently

I have a 14 year old gravely 252Z. It has been a great mower for many years. Last year I took it to a gravely dealer and had them tune it up, adjust the levers and hydraulics, new blades, etc. to the tune of $700. It worked great for a couple of months, then it started acting up. You would have to turn the key multiple times to get it to turn over, but it would eventually crank. I had the starter rebuilt a couple of years ago, and this year I took the starter and solenoid in to the same electrical service place and they replaced the solenoid and said the starter was fine.

I put the starter and solenoid back on, but I am having a problem getting it to start. Sometimes it will start, and other times the red light will come on when you turn the key, it makes a clicking noise, but doesn't turn over/crank. Sometimes it will start if you use the power boost on my battery charger. I had my 3 year old battery checked and it had 0 volts, so I bought a new one. I put in the new one, and cleaned the battery connections, but it does the same thing, turn key, red light comes on, hear a click, but it doesn't turn over.

I saw the thread on this site suggesting potential bad fuses, safety switches, or connections. I even got a wiring diagram from a different local gravely dealer. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should go about trying to correct the problem. I don't have a trailer to haul it on, and I'm hoping I can figure it out without spending another pile of money on it. Of course they will happily come get it for $75 in addition to however much it costs to fix it.

I suspect it's something simple, a bad fuse, a loose connection, a bad ground, etc. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I love the gravely, and it's been a wonderful mower. Please help me get it to start correctly, just like old times.

LEV120 primer

Toro GTS with LEV120. Given to me as no start. Put fuel in the tank and tried to prime it - zero action on the primer. The bulb is not cracked, etc., but it's the kind with the hole in the tip. Is this just the wrong bulb for this carb? Thanks!

New Husqvarna Owner

Hello all. Purchased a GT48DXLS today. This will be a backup mower to my Lazer Z and it will also get used for doing chores around the yard. It took months to decide to buy it and when I finally made up my mind I could not find one due to it being a spring order, limited release. When I thought all hope was lost, a friendly associate at the local Family Farm and Home tracked one down in a store a couple of hours away. Even more surprising, it was still in a crate. I headed out immediately to purchase it. Needless to say, I am excited to start using it. Plans include a 48" steel roller, 12.5 cu ft poly cart, snow blower attachment and maybe a mulch kit? Anyway, I look forward to sharing experiences with this model as I get to use it.

Simple I am sure but I could not find a reference anywhere.

To replace the blades on a 1987 MTD riding mower 36" deck, are they left or right hand threads?
This has a 9/16" head center bolt on each blade, with double 1/2" head outside bolts, 2 each on each blade.
I am not sure at all whether they are all left hand or right hand bolts or varied.

Anyone got a quick answer please. thank you in advance.

new to me MTD mastercut problems

I just picked up a 2012 mastercut by MTD 13AJ795S (sold at Farm and Fleet)

it starts up good, seems to run fine, maybe a little rough will drive around fine.
problem is, engine running, not moving, full throttle, engage blades and runs a little more rough, start moving and the engine will die.
it will move and mow at about half mowing speed but something seems rough. and try to speed up to much and it stall out.

any ideas where start?

John Deere X720 wiring harness issues

Hi,

Husq. 22v46 losing forward drive power

I have a Husq 22v46 riding mower. Recently, I began losing forward drive power on any kind of incline. Typically, on flat ground, it powers fine. When going up a slight incline (it used to power through these inclines), it now loses drive power (not motor power).

Any ideas on what I might check to remove the problem? Can't tell if it has drive oil that I need to check.

Hi all.
I have about 4 acre mowable lawn and 60 inch Hustler ZTR. Mowing I do enjoy actually but my property likely was never really graded well plus, it naturally developed all kinds of bumps in it. Much is contributed to moles, but it is what it is.
I am buying a 4WD tractor soon, as 1/4th of my 6 acre is wetland that I have to keep lay when it's wet, as normal mower will get stuck immediately. Then it grows waist high and so on.

I am debating between rear blade or box scraper as tractor attachment. I want to gently smooth the mowable land, so that I can actually run my ZTR at more or less full speed. Now it's back breaking bumps.

Before I make decision and commit, I am seeking advice on what will be better attachment for that purpose? Not real re-grading, that's dozer job, I know that. Just smoothing dem damn bumps and maybe leveling some minor hillocks. I can't touch wetland but, at least those 4 acres where I can run my mower.

Walk behind Can't Get New MTD YardMan Mower Started, Please Help if you Can

I just bought a new MTD/ Yardman push behind mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine at Home Depot. Nice looking mower, solid price. Everything was easy to put together except now I am not sure where/ what part of engine to connect the cable that is coming from the safety bar. Everything else went smoothly - put oil and gas in no problem, put handle, choke and discharge guard together in a few minutes with no issues. Hoping I am just missing something small. Even my neighbor had trouble finding where to connect the cable so the safety bar pulls tight, and he's out there mowing his yard every 3 or 4 days. Any help you can provide is much appreciated.

This outfit is 1 year old. There is no problem with this until I engage the mower deck. It runs well for a while and suddenly seems to load up and start to cut out. If I disengage the mower deck and throw the accelerator into choke it chugs and putts and kicks back in, at which time I can once again engage the mower deck. This goes on continually until I get my mowing done. A repair man suggested it may be governor, push rods or coil. Please advise if possible.

Hello I'm new to the forum ..I have a troy bilt xp zero turn that will start but when I start cutting after a short while the engine starts running erratic . It did it the last time I cut grass and just added some sea foam to it and after 5 or 10 minutes it ran perfect
however after the gas ran out ..I started using non ethanol gas only and didn't add any seafoam to it , started cutting grass the other day and it ran fine no skip or anything , a couple of days later it cut for a while then started skipping and running erratic ,
I changed the fuel filter on it bc it had the original one on it and looked clogged so I figured that was the problem , and checked the air filter, and spark plugs- negative still running erratic ..I've done all the small checks except for cleaning the carburetor. Could someone please help me out on this problem? Its so frustrating all I want to do is cut my grass ...thanks in advance

The throttle lever slides from full to 3/4 since I mindlessly put oil at the top of the cable and allowed some to trickle down the sheath. Now it won't stay at full throttle.

The mower mechanic said it needs a new cable but it's been BO'd for two weeks. I don't think he's going to find on. What's more... I don't think I need a new cable! I think tension can be applied to that cable to hold it where it's put by making some adjustment at either end... But I don't have experience with this type of adjustment ... if there is such a thing.

Anyone care to comment? Suggestion where to get a cable... if needed? Advise on making a simple adjustment.

P.S. I have a parts and service manual if you need to direct me to a sketch or page.

My tractor stopped mowing last year and I just had time to check it out. I don't know much about parts name, but I removed the head gasket and it doesn't look good at all.

Looks like there is a ring stuck in one of the valve and there is oil pretty much everywhere (which I'm not sure there should be). Please see pictures.

Is this worth saving? Can I clean this up and fix?

Model 407776-Type 2195G5, code 120410YG my neighbors mower, was popping bad, I found a big mouse nest, and 2 bent push rods, the other cylinder was fine. I changed push rods and set valve lash. He ran it for about an hour and it quit. When it cooled it would start back up, I have changed spark plugs, and put 2 new ignition coils in it, still stalls, some suggested the diodes may be bad in the kill wires, neighbor is an electrician, so he installed new diodes. It will run about 30 minutes then shut down, if you turn the blades off you can start but it has no power, and can barely move then will,die, I have sprayed carb cleaner in the carb and it doesn't help it to start and it does have spark, I have removed the fuel cap. I need some suggestions on this one..

My 226v won't move. I checked and the drive belt popped off. The problem is I can't figure out how it goes around the pulleys. And what looks like a control rod is hanging down near the rear right tire which I assume connects to the drive system. Does anyone have a photo or a simple diagram of how the belt should run or attach to attachments? Much appreciated.

Vanguard oil guard ..is it worth upgrading mowers for ?

I like the literature I read about this new oil guard on the vanguard engines from ferris. But, the smallest model is the is2100 .. where it would be nice to have. This mower, I don't need anything that big. The is700 , and probably the is600 would be just fine. But I have also found.. that sometimes bigger is better, even if you don't need it. Is it really worth the extra cash going from 6k up to 9k to get this ? Will this help increase the longevity of the mower ? My current standard JD170 is 27 years old and still runs fine.. I just need something a bit easier on my back. Looking at comparable lawn tractors, there all junk. You have to move to commercial grade to get something built as well.. as they say, they just don't build them like they use to.. I did pay 2700 back in 1990 though. So with inflation I suppose the 8k is close. And that ferris suspension,looks pretty good. I'm just really having a problem picking the engine.

Got this because po failed to check oil . Rebuilt the kaw motor and it ran fine . Turn the key on had power to the fuel pump could hear it no power to solenoid , short the solenoid and it starts fine runs well . Mowed with it for a couple weeks all good but had to short the solenoid every time . Last week it got hot , fan not coming on , checked fan ok seems the sensor did not signal the fan motor . Grounded the signal wire at the temp sensor plug in and topped up coolant and finished mowing with fan on full time . Temp gauge showed the thermostat was opening and closing as it should . When done mowing washed with garden hose and put it away . Now no power anywhere , turn key on no fuel pump . Bypas the relay under the seat fuel pump works and motor starts but amp gauge does not come up nor does the hour meter and no power to the mower deck switch . It is a toro z master 252 L model 74211 v twin kawasaki motor . 52 inch cut side discharge . Have checked all the fuses i can find 4 and all good . Any ideas ?

M18QS Problems

I have a M18QS built in 1990, and installed on a 1991 Craftsman GT6000. I bought the mower used when it was a year old. Last year I started experiencing the "runs fine for 20 minutes, then dies" problem. I'm an average backyard mechanic, but this has me baffled - here are the details.

I've known for a while that the ignition modules on these were prone to issues. After inspecting the wires, and seeing that they were pretty well cracked and worn I decided to go ahead and replace the ignition module. While I was at it, I put a fresh oil filter and oil in it (easier to do with the shields off). It also has a new ignition switch less then a month old. It started right up, was idling smooth, took it out to mow, was running fine with power, and 20 minutes later it sputtered and quit. Again, acting like it was fuel starved. Started checking the fuel lines - no fuel between the filter and the fuel pump. Went and got new fuel line and a new fuel filter. When I removed the old fuel filter entirely, there was also no fuel between the tank and the filter. Drained and removed the fuel tank, removed the fuel pickup and found it full of crap. Fired up the air compressor and blew out the fuel pickup. Reassembled everything, jumped on and cranked the motor - watched the fuel filling up the new filter as I cranked (which implies the fuel pump is working - right?)...but...the engine wouldn't start. Sprayed a bit of carb cleaner in it which has served to help start it in the past and still nothing, not even a burp from the plugs igniting the carb cleaner. 30 amp fuse is good, but replaced it just to see if it made a difference - nope. Disconnected the kill wire to see if it made a difference - nope.

Anybody have any ideas for what I should try next?

I have a John Deere Z915B z mower. Sometimes it will start and sometimes not! Seems like it starts most often when cold and not so much when hot. We know it is an ignition issue because we can hot wire it with a long screw driver. We took it in to the JD place it was purchased, the kept it 8 weeks and basically did not listen that it was a ignition issue and replaced the starter, and, of course, the ignition issues remain! 42" ZTR - Toro, Hustler, and Husqvarna ?

Test drove all three today... Have 3/4 acre to cut. Toro SS4225, Hustler Raptor, and the Husqvarna Z242F.... Toro slightly less cost than the other two. The Husqvarna had larger 6" wide front wheels, welded deck, and 21.5 Kawasaki motor.... Kohler on the Raptor. The Husqvarna just seemed much better handling and more solid all the way around... Any comments or opinions on durability, quality of cut, or other would be appreciated. Tks.

No spark. Removed clutch, cleaned magneto, set gap with business card, checked magnetism, inspected wires. Resistance between plug wire and ground is 2.5 K ohms. Resistance between plug wire and red wire connector on coil (to cut of switch) is 4.5 M Ohm. Plug is good.

Hello,

New to this site and honestly new to the zero turn world. Im trying to look for a 60" cut and stay within a 8k-9k budget and so far I've gone to look at...

1. John Deere z930m which my local dealer has a special on and it would put me around 8500. I love the M.O.D. deck but its more than i want to spend so just the regular z930m is my best option there.

2. Kubota Z726XKW 60 inch deck similar price with the kawasaki or a little less with the kohler engine instead which makes it t z725. For a non suspension seat i found this one very comfortable.

3. Dixie chopper blackhawk hp i liked the fact that it has the suspension seat and the O.C.D.C. as standard option but once i drove it i felt like i sat a bit higher which i didnt like quite as much but thats just personal preference. Just not sure about "the brand" with the company being bought a few years ago and the all new design of this mower.

4. Exmark radius X was in my price range as well and first impression was just a solid well built mower with nothing that made it stand out to me. Again im a novice so feel free to tell me otherwise:confused3:

My semi- local Ferris dealer did not have a IS700 in stock to see just the IS2100 which i think is a bit over my budget but looks great. I really liked the Scag TC2 they had also but again little over budget.

In summary ive tried to do as much looking and information gathering as i could while keeping my budget in mind along with the feel of the dealership i would buy from and keeping their service facility in mind. Also thinking about each brand warranty, reviews found online, engine options ( Kawasaki and Kohler primarily) and have found myself a little overwhelmed but leaning in the direction of John Deere or Kubota. Any feedback or other recommendations would be appreciated.

Checking prices on ferris mowers, it seems sale can not be beat. Plus if they ship it, no sales tax.. so it's even cheaper that way. Is there actually a problem purchasing in this manner ? If a warranty problem comes up, would a local dealer (which wants way more in price) really give me a hard time on servicing it ? I have more questions to come, as this site , while being very informative..raises lots of questions.

John Deere D140 - Only Starts with Jump from Car

Our John Deere D140 tractor/mower suddenly won't start with just the battery.
If I jump it from the car, it will start.

Battery alone will turn it over fine, but won't even try to catch.

I tried a tune up (replaced plugs, filters, oil, etc.), same issue.

Mowing yesterday and the right wheel steering cable broke. I've searched and can not find any pictures or videos on how to change this cable out. Engine Runs Rough

I have a LTR180. Sometimes it will not crank with the right stop peddle down. I take my foot off an it does crank. I push it down again an it cuts off. Occasionally it will stay running but not often. When it does crank it continues to run rough an miss while I'm mowing so much it will hardly pull the mower. Most times when I park it after mowing an I push the parking break peddle down the engine smoothes out like normal. Any ideas?

help with Honda sit down mower

Is my Kubota Kohler Krapped?

I have a Kubota t2380 lawn tractor. I purchased it new in 2010. It had began to smoke a little occasionally from the exhaust and the oil smelled like gas. I was told the float was probably stuck but would be OK if I shut gas off when not in use. I did but it recently got worse and it had began to use oil but i checked it prior to use and kept it full

It began smoking a lot and wasn't just from the exhaust and I thought I could of spilled oil and it was burning off so I took off shields and cleaned up quite a bit of oil under muffler and from shields. Well when cleaning up oil I found a nut under motor on frame. Upon closer examination I saw where the nut had come off the manifold and was actually missing the other as well. I replaced both nuts and it did stop all the smoking but next time I Mowed when I checked oil it was extremely low. I filled and mowed for an hour or so elwith no problems. I left mower sit overnight and when I checked oil the next day before mowing it was very low again. Upon inspection I found the oil to be leaking around manifold and 1 of the nuts loose. Well after that I saw a hole in valve cover with rod sticking out of it. Is the motor done? If not will repairs be expensive? I appreciate any input anyone may have. Why did this I happen?

Over-researched and overwhelmed . .

Good evening all. So here is the story; I will keep it short:

I have a Cub Cadet LTX1050. I purchased it used and have put a significant amount of money into it since I got it (governor, regulator, carb rebuild, pulleys, belts, pto, etc.). After about 20 hours of doing all this work, it is starting to act up again. I was just handed down an eXmark which I will use to cut the grass, so the Cub Cadet has been re-purposed as a utility machine. I have a roller, aerator, wagon and snow blade. Now that I am starting to have issues with the rider again, I am thinking of just buying something new to have a dependable backup mower to the eXmark and to take over the heavy duty tasks that I am currently using the Cub Cadet for. Here are my only two options:

Cub Cadet GT50 for $2699

50" Stamped Deck
K58 Hydrostatic

Pros: Works with existing snow blade, has great steering (light), powerful engine, great styling
Cons: Transmission, although better than a K46 is still a limited slip (not as good for snow or pulling attachments), complaints of finicky safety switches

K66 Hydrostatic

Pros: Arguably better engine, lifetime warranty on deck, more robust transmission with locking diff.
Cons: Stiff steering with wider radius, limited to 3.5" cut height, requires buying a new snow blade

From the specs alone, the Husqvarna is the clear choice, especially being discounted $300 to match the price of the Cub Cadet, but that cost is quickly consumed by the new blade I have to purchase. Am I crazy for still considering getting an XT1 because of the cheaper price in the end and the easier steering, or will I regret not having the rear locker when pulling a 920lb roller or pushing snow? Please share your thoughts and experiences. Thank you.

I have a Bad Boy zero turn. My wife used it to cut the grass two days ago...when done, she washed the mower down with the hose. The next day, I started the mower to put it back in the garage and the left hand zero turn handle would not engage, only the right one. Only thing I could was go in circles. The handle moves like it is supposed to but it will not engage. I wondered if anyone has had a similar experience and could tell me what to look for? It's almost like an electrical part got wet and now it won't engage. It worked fine all during the 2 hours mowing session and this is the first time that I have had this problem..Any help out there? 1992, 14SB Hard to start..........

Hello all,
This is my first post after recently finding this site while trying to find out what happened with my JD 14SB. I have read several other threads here about similar issues but wanted to try and see if I can get something clear in my head. I bought this new in 1992 and have used and serviced it regularly all these years. Early this Spring it all of a sudden became hard to start. I used to throw it in the choke position, one, possibly 2 pulls and it was running fine. All of a sudden without any other circumstances it started taking 12 or more pulls, than when it started it smoked a little and ran rough for about 10 secs as if the choke was closed. At this same time I noticed that when I went to pull the rope it sometimes wouldn't budge, than it would seem to let go and I could continue pulling it. My first thought was to clean the carb, which I did with no change and than I thought about just replacing the carb being it's 25 years old. While researching my problem I came across this site and the mention of the BBC being involved. While I read all of those posts the question that came to mind is can the BBC cause the starting problem, and if so how? Is there something in the BBC system that grounds the coil preventing it from starting? As I mentioned after pulling it 12 or so times before it starts, when it does start it seems like the engine is flooded than clears up and everything is fine until the next time I go to use it. Once started on any given day it will start right up if I shut it off for any reason during my mowing. Any suggestions or comments, especially in regards to the BBC being involved and how it is? Thanks for any help.

Spark only spining Backwards

It's a Stihl BG 86 and only has spark when you spin the flywheel backwards but not when spinning in the direction the recoil spins it. I have cleaned the flywheel as well as the Ignition module and set the air gap with a thin Business card. It made no difference still only get spark spinning in the wrong direction which makes no sensed to me. Anyone have any ideas?

My wiring from the blade engagement to its power source came loose and fell through while I was mowing and got all tore up, do I have to replace the whole wiring harness? Or just that certain wiring. Hope someone knows. Thank you

Is3200 with 37hp vanguard rpm issue

Just got a 3200 with 61" deck and 37hp vanguard efi. The wot rpm was off from the factory. After the first mowing it was obvious something was way wrong. I put my tach on it and had 2750 rpm at wot. I have it turned up to 3400 rpm right now, but need to know the book spec. Thank you for your help.

restarting old Onan engine

someone please send me a tip how to restart an old Onan engine. the engine is in a garden tractor that has not been run for 10 years should I remove the spark plugs and squirt oil or something like WD 40 into the cylinders to prevent damage? any tip would be very welcome & appreciated THANK YOU.

Weedeater PE550 2 cycle edger will not start..need some expert advice please

hi

i have to say im struggling with this one..i have been tinkering with this weedeater PE550 gas edger for a couple weeks now...it started ok couple years ago but now it will not start now.

i will give you some condensed info of what i have done so it may help you direct me to next step to get this thing running or trash it

during my process of troubleshooting it this year....the primer bulb and gas lines fell apart...so i have replaced those with new parts.

i do get spark....and .if i put some fuel in the spark plug hole it tries to start after about 10-15 pulls....it struggles but eventually it will start for a fraction of a second...

i took carb 100% apart and cleaned with carb cleaner.....i then reassembled and still no start

i can push the primer 100 times and when i take spark plug out i see no sign of fuel....is this normal?

would a carb rebuild kit fix this?....carb needs replacing?...or could i have another issue why it wont start

carburetor is a walbro wt-630 i believe carb with primer bulb built in....pretty common on many 2 cycle yard products

any help would be appreciated...

I noticed that no one has posted in this section in almost a year so I thought I would share some photos of my collection of hard working chain saw. They are heavy and mostly mad of metal
there are very few plastic parts like many of todays chain saws.....and they work great, I have 16", 20", 24" and a 28" bar and chains.
