Hello- I am new to your forum but spend a few hours each month tinkering. Last summer I got a mid 70's model 5239
with magnesium deck and fiberglass shroud. I had used it for a few hours last summer after cleaning the carb and re painting the deck, but at the end of the season the starter cord broke. I bought some #4 rope to use and have tried twice to replace the rope, but it is pretty complicated to do, what with a couple of different springs to hold in place as you reseat the assembly. If someone can point me to a sticky or a thread to guide me I would appreciate. Twice, including this morning, I spent at least 90 minutes trying to do this, only to have the rope pull out of the coil when I tried to pull start.
